CAGE

YAK BALLZ

Cage Kennylz (real name Christian Palko), commonly known as Cage, is an underground rapper based in New York City, United States. He is known for his acid rap horror-core lyrics, inspired by his experiences in a mental institution as a teenager. Cage's latest album, Hell's Winter, was released on 20th September 2005, and demonstrated how Cage had cleaned up his act, turning his back on drugs, and dropping the misogynistic language inherant to rap's macho vocabulary. This resulted in a mature and intelligent, although still emotional, album which pointed towards a very personal direction for future albums.

Yak Ballz is one of the freshest, most intriguing voices to appear on the Independent Hip-Hop scene in a long time. The majority of the past two years has found the Queens, New York native building up to his sophomore breakthrough full length effort, Scifentology II, released on January 29th of 2008 on FloSpot Records in conjunction with Scifen Clothing. By touring heavily across the globe and expanding his loyal fan base with his memorable stage show, Yak has laid the groundwork for a bright future. Scifentology II is the long awaited, brilliantly crafted, tangible body of work that fans both new and old can add to their prized collections. Brace yourself for the politically infused lyrics, heartfelt delivery, innovative production, and New York state of mind that makes this young artist a name that will resonate in the world of Independent music for years to come. This is Scifentology II…

BLACK FRANCIS
AKA FRANK BLACK OF THE PIXIES

Hey! Guess who has two thumbs and is pretty darn stoked for this show? This Guy! Get ready for a solo acoustic performance by one of the most talented and important songwriters of the last 20 years!

Black Francis is the stage name contrived by and for Charles Thompson during his residency in college rock band the Pixies, a period that ran from the group's formation in Boston during 1986 until the dark day in 1993 when Black Francis announced during a BBC radio interview that the group was disbanding. The other members of the Pixies such as Kim Deal were not yet wise to this, finding out a tad bit later when their now former associate faxed them a transcription of relevant parts of the radio show. Thompson's next show business identity was as Frank Black, often in the band-leading context of Frank Black and the Catholics. Publishing bean counters can watch for songwriting credits under both pseudonyms as well as under Charles Thompson; in the latter case he should not be confused with the famed classic jazz keyboardist whose works were recorded by Charlie Parker and many others. Truly frankly speaking, following the 2004 re-formation of the Pixies, fans were apparently free to think of Thompson as either Black Francis or Frank Black. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide

MEN

MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective that focuses on the energy of live performance and radical potential of dance music. MEN speaks to issues such as wartime economies, sexual compromise, and demanding liberties through lyrical content and an exciting stage show. The group began in 2007 as the DJ/production/remix team of LE TIGRE members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. When the duo began to write new songs, it made sense to merge their efforts with JD's other new project HIRSUTE. JD and Hirsute members Michael O'Neill (Princess, Ladybug Transistor) and Ginger Brooks Takahashi (LTTR, The Ballet) now comprise the core of MEN, with Johanna and artist Emily Roysdon contributing as writers, consultants, and producers.

FAKE PROBLEMS

KISS KISS
STRICTLY FOR THE BIRDS

Originally planned as a solo outing for vocalist/guitarist Chris Farren, Fake Problems occupy the space between altcountry, folk, and indie pop with an added dose of punk D.I.Y. appeal. Fake Problems first documented their sound on the album Watching the Bull Get the Matador, though it had more electronic undertones than the twangy countryfolkrock (which could evoke images of early Against Me alongside Whiskeytown) later releases would showcase further.

AP describes them as, "Kiss Kiss do the Eastern European-flavored thing right (especially when they crash into Oingo Boingo). With morose lyrics that seem ripped out of a Tim Burton poem (if he wrote poetry), the dual pounding keyboards, psycho-circus-inspired melodies, a fleeting chainsaw and a frantic violinist, Kiss Kiss are the Geppettos to the Living Dead dolls."

THE BRIGGS

LEFT ALONE
TWO TONE RUNTS
VIOLENT SHIFTERS

There's something about the Briggs' brand of working class punk rock that seems sacred. It's below the surface of their anthemic group sing-alongs, their marching drum beats, and their gritty muted guitar riffs. It's the thought that this kind of music will never be heard on Clear Channel radio or "Total Request Live," yet the passion and ferver with which the Briggs deliver their third full-length is unmatched by any mainstream act today.

Left Alone’s Hellcat debut combines a mixture of musical influences from Rancid and the Clash to Operation Ivy, Swingin Utters, and Elvis Costello. From the punk driven title track “Lonely Starts and Broken Hearts,” to the the heavily ska-inspired “Another Feeling,” to the homage to Elvis’ car in “My 62,” Left Alone pours every ounce of creative energy and emotion into this album.

TWO TONE RUNTS
Rasta punks with a little funk. A politically conscious ska/punk outfit from the Twin Cities, this sextet mixes catchy trombone riffs with guitar, keyboard and vocal harmonies. Their songs have earned recognition within the Twin Cities social justice movement and they've been requested to play numerous political demonstrations and fundraisers.

FREE ENERGY (EX HOCKEY NIGHT - DFA RECORDS)

Props go to Music For Robots for introducing me to this ridiculously catchy glam-pop track from Philly’s Free Energy. The band are playing a few shows this summer (including a couple in NYC at Mercury Lounge) and with fantastic songs like “Dream City”, I’m sure they’ll won’t have a problem earning fans. The song is T. Rex rock riffs meets 60’s soul meets Polyphonic Spree-like jubilance with a saxophone solo thrown in for good measure. It’s one of the instantly gratifying, genuine fun songs I’ve heard in a while.

SCORPION CHILD
CASTLE
ROCKFORD MULES

SCORPION CHILD (Austin, TX) - A truly powerful rock experience that's actually from this time period. These five south central Texas boys sure know how to be rude with their abrasive testament And homage to heavy early 70's dirty classic riff rock fury. The Child's bong-rattling stoner groove work, obviously influenced by the best back beat era of rock n' roll, hinting at the likes of (Sir Lord Baltimore, Free, Cactus, Deep Purple, Mc5, Fuck, even some UFO). They have also introduced a hint of melodious Big Star vocal harmonization in spots apparent in Their newer material. Comprised of Texas Metal rock veterans and (ex-Minneapolis art-metal band Icollide front man
Aryn Schwartz),Scorpion Child has punished their audiences with the same fervor and sexual energy that brought us I. Pop and J. Brown.
For the last 3 years, The Child have delivered an unforgettable live assault with killer Bonham-esque drum power, dueling Thin Lizzy style heroic fret work and one hell of a spastic yet thunderous bass performer. Aryn's powerful lungs eject a Terry Reid quality range as rare today as Hairy Chapter's "Can't get through" Lp. The bands loud to soft transitions mixed with Antioch Arrow level freakouts are beautifully crafted and well executed, which will one day allow them a unique flagstone in the bone yard of classic rock history. -Evil Evan Erickson

CASTLE (Austin, Tx) - upon a recent move from the northern twin city chill to the blazing saddles of the ATX, Castle has upped the mayhem in their brutal & dark rock n'roll delivery. A few member swaps away from their (ex-EXAM...) Sioux Falls doom roots, the band has figured out their Sabbath/early Soundgarden formula with a flawless reach to the chunky Grand Funk/Humble Pie blues chord powerstorm. It seems that Castle have been down there in Texas hangin' with Scorpion Child at some waterin' hole to a soundtrack of (Trapeze,Leaf Hound,Mountain, and maybe even Man Is The Bastard). This 3-peice likes it full stack loud! The singer wears a gravely Cobain-like gargle, coupled with some tasty licks reminiscent of Johnny Thunders and Jeff Beck. Fuzzy toned Bass lord "Hutch" hold's down that Evil rumble like the late Felix Pappalardi crying upon hearing the new “Heaven and Hell“ record while wearing an oversized His Hero Is Gone T-shirt.

These bands couldn't be better candidates for a total I-35 rock n' roll shake down.

999
Legendary British punk band from the late 70's.

DUANE PETERS GUNFIGHT
The DP Gunfight started in 2004, when Peters & Schiavone, both ex Fuck Dolls, re-connected in a mental ward, only able to communicate by flying kites to one another during their daily shock treatments.

EVERYBODY OUT! (ex Dropkick Murphys)
Mix a sound reminiscent of Do Or Die era Dropkick Murphys, the pop-punk/ska of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and the modern rock punk stomp of Green Day. Join the ranks with Everybody Out. Today.

STIGMA
I did a google search for my name and found that I am "the guitarist of Agnostic Front (vocalist Roger Miret, drummer Steve Gallo, and bassist Mike Gallo), the seminal NYC band largely responsible for bringing hardcore music to the streets. Together since 1981, they've managed to outlive their legendary contemporaries like Minor Threat, Black Flag, and the Dead Kennedys. One of the reasons people still schlep their asses down to CBGB's is to get a piece of the history that Agnostic Front helped create". So that about sums it up for now!

JAKKED RABBITS
well basically guys to sum it all up, were a bunch of blader hatin, scum skatin' hyper little punks who are loud and obnoxious and basically get together just to play fast sketchy punk rock just for the pure fun of it, which is rarely seen in our scene today because of scam of the main stream take over. but we stick to the true roots of punk rock and if your not slamin while we are playin, then we will, end of story.

THE SIDEKICKS

COBRA SKULLS
Punk Rock from Reno, Nevada! Cobra Skulls blend elements of punk, rockabilly, and ska to make unique, fist pumping, tunes that you're bound to enjoy.

THE MENZINGERS
Scranton, Pennsylvania is probably best known as the home of the fictional Dunder-Mifflin on NBC's hit show The Office. But soon, Scranton will also be known as the home of one of the most exciting new bands in the world, The Menzingers. They play real deal, no frills, punk rock with reggae overtones and a sense of authenticity rarely seen in a genre that is quickly being overrun with posers and pretenders.

THE METHADONES
Incorporating catchy power pop with guitar-fueled, hook-laden punk rock, the Chicago quartet The Methadones prove to be much more than the scads of young pseudo-angry bands that have cashed in on the pop-punk formula of Green Day in the early '90s. The Methadones, led by guitarist / vocalist Dan Schafer (aka Dan Vapid from Screeching Weasels), along with lead guitarist Mike Byrne (The Vindictives), bassist Pete Mittler and drummer Mike Soucy, snatch their sweet, sticky brand of pop-punk from the hands of babes, only to repackage it all into short, searing treats for those a little more mature, but who still know a good time when it clobbers them over the head. The band's knack for injecting their infectious melodies with an unbridled sense of rebellious enthusiasm only solidifies that these guys are serious about their craft.

THE SIDEKICKS
Punk rock from Cleveland putting out wax for Red Scare, they like the Ramones and sleeping on your couch, if you are coming to the show, bring them burritos!!

JEFFREE STAR

ARTIST VS. POET
WATCHOUT! THERE'S GHOSTS
LETS GET IT

JEFFREE STAR
What began as an exercise in self delusion fulfilled itself in the biggest self made personality the world has ever seen, ladies and gentlemen, greater than life itself, bigger than a house and able to jump teams of single men in leaps and bounds, the cunt and queen of the internet, THIS is MISS JEFFREE STAR! Half super bitch and half mega cunt. He is a self admitted boyfriend thief and makeup addict, he is a photo junkie and designer clothes slut, he is brazenly sexual and openly subversive; he has become a role model for the new post 911 America.

Artist Vs. Poet is for people that appreciate music and the desire to do something a little different. No one is naive enough to actually believe “we are unique, do our own thing, have no influences, and are creating something that will live for the next one hundred years.” Although we are not an exact carbon copy of these kinds of bands, we admit their influence in our lives and in our music. We wont write the same songs they have written, but we will write fun music that you will enjoy. We are Artist Vs. Poet and we hope you are ready for something a little similar and a little different. Our goal is to create music that you can sing along to, enjoy, and most of all tell your friends about.

WATCHOUT! THERES GHOSTS
Jordan Blake used to scream and belt in a band called A Skylit Drive. Shortly after touring the U.S for a year he decided it was time to go back and dig up the roots of his music career. Joshua Stotts and Jordan have been spending countless hours together in the lab to make you some music to help your pores absorb sunlight.

LETS GET IT
Formed out of the ashes of “The Cut Scene” and “Me in the Making” this Dayton, Ohio Pop/Crunk force is taking the scene by storm with their infectious lyrics and music. Within the first couple days of releasing their myspace they gained thousands of fans and the numbers keep rising. With all this hype and labels knocking at their front door it will be neat to see what turn this band takes next…

AUSTIN LUCAS
TWO COW GARAGE

Austin Lucas, a descendant of a family from Indiana to whom making bluegrass and folk music comes as natural as breathing, escapes his environment by throwing himself on punk and hardcore music. Like an Americana-punk variation of Kafkian alienation put into lyrics and sung in a voice that tears open the earth.

Cleverly described as Uncle Tupelo's nephews, Two Cow Garage takes strong cues from Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy's punkier sides. Not easily pigeonholed, the band also digs deep into the honest country-rock of Slobberbone and Drive-By Truckers, but somehow still manages to maintain their own soulful sound.

THE HONORARY TITLE

GOOD OLD WAR
CORY BRANAN

The Honorary Title is Jarrod Gorbel and Aaron Kamstra. Gorbel bares his soul using his soaring voice and intricately worded narrative, while multi-instrumentalist Aaron Kamstra augments the melodies using an assortment of synths, organ and piano parts. Drawing on an eclectic range of influences that includes Elvis Costello, Bright Eyes and Jeff Buckley, The Honorary Title combines raw emotion with pop hooks and remarkably poetic lyrics to write songs that defy simple genre classifications.

GOOD OLD WAR
Seldom do band members rebound gracefully after their main musical effort falls apart, but Keith Goodwin (vocals/guitar) and Tim Arnold (drums/vocals), members of the pop/progressive rock band Days Away have managed to do just that, pulling a 180 with their sound to a great degree of success in their new acoustic folk project Good Old War. Rounding out the trio is Dan Schwartz (guitar/vocals) from the Americana tinged 6 piece band, Unlikely Cowboy.
Unlike the recent trend among indie rock artists who have visited the country/folk genre, Good Old War makes no attempt to assimilate its music for the sake of novelty. There’s no fake twang in Keith Goodwin’s soft vocals, nor does the band try to overindulge itself by adding sounds by the harmonica or mandolin just for the sake of having them. Instead, this trio from Pennsylvania retains the intimate storytelling nature of folk-song structure, playing music for those who desire an emotive, lyrical experience without having to wade through pretentious or unnecessary musical gimmicks to get it. Their debut full length Only Way To Be Alone came out on Nov 4th , 2008 on Sargent House

Cory Branan’s characters populate skating rinks and dive bars, work dead-end jobs and chase after dead-end girls. Working in the oft-mined territory of drinking and relationships, Branan keeps things fresh through his sincerity and perspective. He skips from the nostalgic "Skateland South" to the darkly possessive "Love Song 8" without missing a beat, equally at home with lighthearted ditties about girls and more serious meditations on relationships.

NEW MODEL ARMY

New Model Army are a modern punk band, more melodic than many of their classic counterparts and widely respected for their unwavering political stance and working-class ethics. The band was named after the English revolutionary army of Oliver Cromwell. Led by guitarist/vocalist Justin Sullivan (who goes by the name Slade The Leveller), the group has an extremely loyal core following. The Army's music is intense, angry, and powerful; the group experiments frequently with quieter, acoustic material, which often captures the feel of their best punk.

THE WEAKERTHANS

The Weakerthans have been rocking the indie scene (and defying classification) with their bittersweet musings about nostalgia and longing. Combining genres as diverse as folk, punk and alt-country, while deftly balancing political ideals and poetic word strings, this Canadian four-piece have defined themselves as a tough act to pigeonhole. The fact that they've consistently done it so brilliantly also makes them a tough act to dismiss.

MASERATI

MASERATI
From their early days as post-emo-reformed-math experimenters, Maserati showed promise, but with last year's addition of dynamo Jerry Fuchs (who for my money is the greatest living rock drummer), the group embraced the misunderstood and oft-maligned universe of psychedelic rock, introducing a healthy dose of Pink Floyd and Can to their already compelling prog-punk mix. Drunk on the power of this newfound experimental freedom, Maserati continues to evolve in ways their built-in hipster audience might not fully appreciate but lovingly laps up all the same.

CAPTURED BY ROBOTS

Captured! By Robots was started back in 1996. Jason Vance could not get along human musicians and he decided to build himself a band . . . a band of robots. Shortly before their completion, he accidentally spilled coffee on their CPUs. When he awoke the next morning, they had come to life and he had been given a Bio-Cerebral chip that allows them to control him. From that point on, he was JBOT, of Captured! By Robots.
